Understand the architecture and foundation of layers two and three of the Internet TCP/IP stack.

The course looks at the world of switching and routing in local and wide area networks. It considers company networks as well as ISP and carrier networks, with an emphasis on Ethernet. Central topic is the underlying theory and practical implementation of Interior Gateway Protocols like RIP and OSPF and the Exterior Gateway Protocol BGP. For layer 2 we look at the (Rapid) Spanning Tree Protocol. IPv6 plays an important role in the course next to IPv4.
